ILLUSTRATOR & MOTION DESIGNER

For Saint-Benoît, everything started with a stack of textured assets in Photoshop. I built the illustrations layer by layer, then threw them into After Effects to get them moving. Instead of letting the software smooth everything out, I focused on creating a heavy, jittery grain that actively flickers between frames, giving the digital canvas the tactile feel of old ink on textured paper. My visual inspiration came from the 1980 book Saint Benoît et le journal des moines d’Occident. I was fascinated by its hybrid, part-comic, part-newspaper format originally designed to engage young readers. I wanted to repurpose that unique editorial approach into a personal style driven by animated gradients and a contemporary aesthetic. The core of the project became this grainy animated texture, rough around the edges, yet warm in the middle. I wanted to create something that felt physically touched, while still honoring the bold, flat geometry of the original designs.
