DESIGNER

DESIGNER

An academic project. I took my grandfather's medical books and old visuals, scanned everything by hand, and built a mixed media collage from the ground up. Every texture was physical before it became digital, drawn, painted, cut, and scanned, then refined and composed in Photoshop. The process was as important as the result. I was drawn to the weight of the source material, old paper, clinical diagrams, anatomical illustrations that had already lived a life before I touched them. I wanted to preserve that feeling rather than erase it, layering my own drawings and painted interventions on top. The cover came from a painting I made by hand, scanned, and brought into Photoshop for the final composition. What came out of it was a style I hadn't planned for. Dense, archival, and deeply tactile, the kind of work that feels made rather than designed. That distinction started to matter to me here.

[ THE CONCEPT ]

First Cut is a personal tribute made from my grandfather’s old medical books. By physically cutting and hand-scanning his diagrams, I wanted to honor the imperfections of the old paper and reshape his clinical legacy into a new visual story.

[ VISUAL EXECUTION ]

My grandfather's diagrams were designed for clarity. I drew on top of them, painted over them, made them mine. The clinical became personal: each intervention a way of adding feeling to something that was built to be precise. The style didn't come from a reference. It came from that friction.
